While here explore our 120 Acres of award winning gardens incorporating a vast collection of rare species of plants and trees from around the world. The award wining Millennium Gardens,surrounded by the romantic hornbeam cloister walk, include plants exclusive to the Demesne.It also proudly houses the worlds tallest box hedges and tucked away in an intimate courtyard, the pergola with a spectacular Wisteria, which is 90 years old. Meander through beautifully landscaped and natural parkland.Cross over an enchanting waterfall in the fernery and follow the River Walk to the double bridges where two rivers meet. View the exterior of the Castle, home to the Parsons Family for the past 400 Years upto and including the current 7th Earl of Rosse, Lady Rosse and their family.
In our Science Centre and Museum – Travel back in time with the Parsons family, Earls of Rosse, when Birr Castle was a hub of scientific discovery and innovation. The interactive galleries reveal the wonders of early photography, engineering, astronomy and botany.
After trekking the 5 miles of walking paths, relax in the Courtyard Cafe, which offers Specialty tea’s and coffees, sandwiches, light lunches and daily specials.
